(plus it’s fantastic for energy and reducing inflammation)
This is one of my favorite green smoothies to make for breakfast or lunch, especially at the moment.
It gives a boost of energy, and it’s good for immunity and fighting inflammation in the body.
You can substitute any of the ingredients according to what you like and what you have, but this is what I make... as it tastes great and these foods are all really good for immunity.
Smoothie Ingredients
1 cup of leafy greens (Spinach, kale, or silverbeet)
1-2 Vitamin C fruit (kiwifruit, oranges, or lemon)
½ tablespoon of Chia seeds
½ tablespoon of Flax seeds
1 teaspoon of Cocoa powder
1 teaspoon of cinnamon
1 teaspoon of honey
½ cup of water
Blend everything with a few ice cubes and enjoy!
This is the go-to smoothie for me a few times each week, and right now I've washed, chopped, and frozen a bunch of kale and lemon to get through the lockdown.
The cocoa has many benefits, including immune regulation, inflammation, weight loss and diabetes control, and improving mood. [1]
The leafy greens are packed with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants [2].
The vitamin c helps to absorb the iron in the leafy greens, as well as boosting your immediate immunity. [3]
Chia and flax seeds are high in omega-3 fatty acids, polyunsaturated fatty acids, dietary fiber, essential amino acids, vitamins, calcium and other important minerals [4]
